Every year The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) conducts a massive survey of its exercise professionals and partner organizations (like universities and allied health occupations) and compiles a list of the worldwide trends in the health and fitness industry. Following the release of this data in December of 2017, we were able to compare these trends to the services and structure at Active Health Solutions (AHS). Our participants can be assured that we offer the most up-to-date business model that will serve their needs. Active Health Solutions can check 17 out of the 20 top Worldwide Fitness Trends for 2018. Let’s break these down and show you why AHS is a trend-setter in Prince George
Group training – People enjoy working out in groups where common fitness goals and social connection are linked.
Body weight training – AHS has no machines and our participants use their own bodies for resistance training.
Strength training – Participants see the value in gaining strength as part of a balanced fitness regime.
Educated, certified, and experienced fitness professionals – The owners and staff are all affiliated with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), an organization composed of professionals interested and involved in the scientific study of exercise physiology, exercise biochemistry, fitness and health. Another trend is the licensing of fitness professionals and CSEP mandates strict monitoring of college or university courses and exams, First Aid, AED training, professional development credits, and mandatory liability insurance.
Yoga – We have several classes and types (Restorative, Therapeutic, and Chair) on our schedule.
Personal training – Available for participants interested in one-on-one exercise prescription.
Fitness programs for older adults – This training is the cornerstone of our programming. We provide safe, appropriate classes for everyone to improve their energy, mobility, and an increased quality of life.
Functional fitness – “Functional fitness is defined as using strength training to improve balance, coordination, force, power, and endurance to enhance someone’s ability to perform activities of daily living.” This training is built into every single class.
Exercise and weight loss – Weight loss can be a by-product of regular participation, but the training can be combined with the various health lectures and supportive atmosphere.
Exercise is Medicine – This global health initiative encourages primary health care providers (Physicians) to prescribe exercise as part of a treatment plan. AHS are Level 2 members of Exercise is Medicine Canada.
Group personal training – Small groups is the model for our rehabilitation classes, where the maximum class size if 6 participants. And our registered classes allow for 12 participants, which means maximum supervision and safety.
Flexibility and mobility rollers – These are in our facility and worked into classes on a regular basis.
Circuit training – Available in classes like Golf Fit and Excel.
Wellness coaching – Within the Health Lectures and available privately, we recognize and offer more personalized holistic services in health and well-being.
Core training – Stressing strength and conditioning of the stabilizing muscles of the abdomen and back, these exercises are included in every class at AHS.
Sport-specific training – Focused on golfers, we offer off-season training with our indoor golf net and specific exercises to ensure a more enjoyable summer.
