Do you get nervous when doing any kind of impact exercises – skipping, jogging, jumping jacks, etc.? Have you jumped on a trampoline lately? How about worrying about having a hard laugh with friends? Dealing with urinary incontinence is difficult, but luckily there are steps you can take to help improve your condition.

With a quarter of adult women, and half of women who have had a vaginal childbirth, pelvic floor dysfunction is very common. And the risk of dysfunction only increases with age. If you experience pain or pressure in the pelvic region, incontinence, constipation, overactive bladder, or painful intercourse, you could be dealing with a pelvic floor disorder. Pelvic floor disorders are usually linked to conditions or events that injure or weaken the muscles, connective tissue, or nerves in or around the pelvis. This is commonly caused by pregnancy, childbirth, and/or surgery in the area.

We are excited to announce that Active Health Solutions will be teaching a 6 Week Pelvic Floor Health Workshop to help our members who are suffering from a pelvic floor disorder! Every Monday and Wednesday at 1:00pm there will be an hour-long session, including information, handouts, time to practice techniques, and homework. The workshop will go into detail about the anatomy of the muscles making up the pelvic floor and related structures. Gaining an understanding of your body and how it works will help make sense of what you’re going through. Next, we will discuss a few common pelvic floor dysfunctions, like Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Urinary Incontinence. After you have a grasp on the anatomy and the different kinds of issues, you will learn prevention and management strategies. With a limit of 6 participants, you will have plenty of attention and help from Tracie, our Kinesiologist, to ensure that you are getting what you need from the workshop.

Our first Pelvic Floor Health Workshop will start on February 25th, and run twice per week until April 3rd. If you’re interested in joining, register as soon as you can because it won’t take long before all 6 spaces are filled! For more information, or to register, please call us at 250-296-6247 or email
