If getting to a healthier body weight is your primary fitness goal, then our new Weight Loss Class is for you! Held every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm, the class is focused on helping you lose weight and keep it off through sustainable lifestyle changes. Come build healthy habits with others on the same journey towards a healthier and happier life.

The health benefits of maintaining a physically active lifestyle and a healthy body weight are numerous, including improved sleep quality, mood, confidence, immune function, muscle and bone strength, and overall quality of life! It is also crucial in the prevention and maintenance of chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and even cancer.

Weight loss happens when our bodies are in a negative energy balance, which means that we are burning off more calories than we are taking in. The healthiest and most sustainable way to achieve this is not to turn to a drastic fad diet or look for a quick fix, but to practice overall healthier eating habits and increase your daily physical activity. Consistency is the key to meeting and staying at your healthy weight, so commitment to these manageable lifestyle changes is what works. With both strength and aerobic exercises (which means using your muscles and increasing your heart rate), this circuit is a full-body workout that will keep your heart rate elevated for the duration of the class for maximum calorie burn. Combining cardio and resistance training leads to a decrease in fat mass, and an increase in muscle mass, which means an overall healthier and stronger body.

An exercise concept that this class is utilizing, is Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). This is how even after we finish exercising, our bodies keep burning calories in order to restore itself to it’s resting level of metabolic function. One analogy from the American Council on Exercise is that EPOC is like how after you’ve been driving your car and you turn it off, the engine stays warm as it gradually cools down to resting temperature. EPOC is more influenced by exercise intensity, not duration, so a circuit of strength and aerobic exercises broken up by smaller bouts of rest is a great way to boost your metabolism for hours even after your workout is finished!

Along with the workouts, each week we’ll discuss a topic applicable to your weight loss journey, such as building healthy habits, goal setting, and nutrition. So, if you are looking for the accountability and consistency of a weight loss program, come and join us. If you are feeling intimidated by the idea of a circuit class, just remember that it is self-paced so everyone works at their own level, and it is taught by a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer with experience and expertise in training for weight loss. This class is inclusive and can help everyone and anyone at any step of their journey to achieving a healthier body weight.
